I think it was a week ago where Twitterverse was (again) reminded of how powerful Indonesian Twitter users are. This time is Panasonic Gobel award, i seriously don't know what Panasonic Gobel is but it's a huge and highly anticipated event in Indonesia. When it made its way to Twitter's trending topic, Techcrunch wrote about it, something they've never done before with the similar circumstances.
Now here's the interesting part, Techcrunch recently hired a new writer (which they hijacked from Forbes) Evelyn Rusli, obviously she's part Indonesian. It does sound biased isn't it? But to hell with it, the numbers can't lie. Indonesian people are loud, and the tech-scene looks better than it used to be. Startups emerges, online behavior shaped into form, and the online criminals are mostly gone.
I've been reviewing Indonesian startups for over a year now, met a lot of successful founders, innovators and businessmen. The network is growing bigger as more and more startup related event is held (thanks to our friends) connecting startups founders with each other. Some of them actually is doing a partnership together, which is great.
What i want to say here, is that Indonesian market are ready to be served by online services. The infrastructure (still suck, but it's getting better) is somewhat stable, and we have all the resource for awesome programmers, designers and businessmen. It's only a matter of who gets here first, small local startups? or big internet companies.
I may be a bit biased, but i sincerely hope for the local startups to grow and be a king in our own country.
